Davy Jones, Monkees Lead Singer, Dead At 66
Jones died Wednesday from a heart attack.

Davy Jones, lead singer of 1960s made-for-TV pop group the Monkees, died Wednesday (February 29) at age 66. According to TMZ, Jones died of a heart attack at his home in Florida.
The baby-faced singer born David Thomas Jones in Manchester, England, on December 30, 1945, began his career as a child actor, appearing in a British daytime soap opera and radio plays and taking a brief detour into being a horse jockey before landing a Tony nomination at age 16 for his role as the Artful Dodger in a Broadway production of "Oliver!" (In a rock and roll footnote, glam-rock icon David Bowie adopted his stage name after worrying that his birth name, David Jones, would cause confusion with the then emerging stage star and future Monkees singer.)
In an ironic twist of fate given his future stardom, he appeared alongside his "Oliver!" castmates on the December 1964 episode of "The Ed Sullivan Show" that featured the legendary American TV debut of the Beatles.
He launched a solo recording career in 1965, the same year he was chosen to fill out the cast of the TV musical sitcom that would launch him to global fame. The group was put together by producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider, who were inspired by "A Hard Day's Night" to assemble a Beatles-like band to provide the face for their slapstick series. He appeared alongside American musicians Mickey Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, providing lead vocals for many of the band's most iconic tunes, including "Daydream Believer," "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You."
The group's run on TV lasted from 1966 to 1968, and though the bandmembers initially were barred by producers from writing and performing their own music, as time went on, they took over more of the musical reins and the songs took on an increasingly psychedelic tone. Along the way, they scored hits such as "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday," with each bandmember contributing vocals but Jones emerging as the "cute one" and de facto maracas-shaking frontman alongside drummer Dolenz.
With wacky premises that presaged the music-video boom of the 1980s, the show was a hit and the band went on tour, eventually breaking from the show's musical producer, Don Kirshner, to explore increasingly esoteric sounds. The show was canceled in 1968, and Jones appeared alongside his bandmates in the trippy feature-film flop "Head," which was co-written by then-unknown actor Jack Nicholson.
The "Pre-Fab Four" limped along for several more years, but after the loss of Tork and Nesmith, Dolenz and Jones were left to tour as a duo for much of the 1970s. The bandmates would continue to reunite in spurts — with the exception of Nesmith — and in 1986, MTV helped revive interest in the group with Monkees marathons that rebooted interest and once again sent Jones back on the road.
Jones continued to tour and perform on TV and in films throughout the 1980s and '90s, appearing on "My Two Dads," "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," releasing his final album, the cover LP She, in 2009.
Jones was slated to mount a U.K. tour in honor of the group's 45th anniversary in May along with Tork and Dolenz.

Oscars 2012 Belong To 'The Artist,' 'Hugo,' Meryl Streep
French silent film takes home three major prizes, for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.

The early word on the 84th annual Academy Awards was that silent movie "The Artist" was going to run the board. Then there were five early wins by Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" in technical awards, and it seemed as if it would be a night of upsets.
But, like an old movie serial that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end, the throwback to another era in film came on strong and swept three of the four biggies: Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.
The wins capped a night of celebrating the history of cinema, with the final act providing a perfect topper, as "The Artist" became only the second silent movie in Oscar history to snag the night's top prize and the first black-and-white one to win Best Picture since "Schindler's List" in 1994. Joining it in the winner's circle with five wins was another loving tribute to the wonder of film, Scorsese's "Hugo."
After the crash-and-burn that was last year's younger-demo-seeking combo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway, nine-time emcee Billy Crystal provided some of that same kind of warm-and-fuzzy feeling to his hosting duties as well. After the tumult that resulted in Eddie Murphy dropping out of the gig in November, the veteran comedian did exactly what everyone wanted him to: he sang, he danced, he made bar mitzvah and Hitler jokes, he spoofed the year's biggest movies and took a lifetime's worth of shots at Kodak.
Michel Hazanavicius bested Scorsese for Best Director for his work on "The Artist." Though he claimed to have forgotten his speech, Hazanavicius proclaimed himself the "happiest director in the world" for taking home such a prestigious honor for his anachronistic feature about the culture clash between the old and new when talkies supplanted silent films in the late 1920s.
In addition to shouting out the film's famous pooch, Uggie, Hazanavicius gave props to the movie itself, saying, "Since this movie has been made, its life is full of grace and it brings to us joy and happiness. Sometimes life is wonderful, and today is one of these days."
He was joined a short time later by his leading man, Jean Dujardin, who beat out the likes of three-time Best Actor nominee George Clooney, his bromantic pal Brad Pitt and fellow first-time nominees Gary Oldman and Demian Bichir for Best Actor. For a guy who spent an entire movie not talking, Dujardin had a simple message for his legion of new American fans: "I love your country!"
The most nominated actor in Oscar history waited an interminable 30 years between awards, but the 17th time was the charm for Meryl Streep, who snagged her third golden man for disappearing into the role of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady." The always entertaining actress moaned, "Oh my God, oh come on!" at the standing ovation, saying she feared that when her name was read, half of America groaned, "Oh no! Her! Again!"
The night's first Oscar, for Cinematography, suggested that perhaps "The Artist" would not run the board, as it went to Scorsese's "Hugo." As did the second, for Art Direction, which went to the husband-and-wife team that made "Hugo" such a rich visual feast for the eyes. Along the way, the movie also picked up the Oscars for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
Best Supporting Actress went to first-time nominee Octavia Spencer for her role in "The Help," which garnered a standing ovation from the crowd as she struggled to overcome tears in accepting the award for her work as headstrong maid Minny Jackson.
The big night for "The Artist" began with a win for Original Score for untrained composer Ludovic Bource, but it was the cymbal-crashing entrance by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis that helped make the two-song race in the Best Original Song category a memorable one. "Flight of the Concords" star Bret McKenzie won the marathon for "Man or Muppet," noting that it was his lifelong dream to meet Kermit the Frog and, like many leading men in Hollywood, he noted that the fuzzy Muppet is "a lot shorter in real life."
After seven decades in the business, a lithe Christopher Plummer became the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar when he accepted the Supporting Actor statue for his work as a father who comes out to his son after the death of his wife in "Beginners." Holding up the golden statue, Plummer said, "You're only two years older than me — where have you been all my life?" joking that he emerged from the womb practicing his thank-you speech.
Though it wasn't in the running for the biggies, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" didn't go home empty-handed, as it snagged the Best Editing prize for the same duo who took it home last year for "The Social Network." The award for Animated Feature went to director Gore Verbinski, who took home his first Oscar for "Rango."
Director Alexander Payne took home his second Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his collaboration on the script to "The Descendants," while a typically absent Woody Allen will get his Original Screenplay statue in the mail for "Midnight in Paris."

Justin Bieber, Far East Movement Drop Fist-Pumping 'Live My Life'
The RedOne-produced party anthem is the lead single off FEM's Dirty Bass.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s track with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/far_east_movement/artist.jhtml">Far East Movement</a> dropped Friday (February 24), a few days earlier than expected. <a href="/news/articles/1679722/justin-bieber-new-single-far-east-movement.jhtml">"Live My Life,"</a> which officially hits iTunes on Tuesday, is the lead single off FEM's new album, <i>Dirty Bass.</i> It feels like Bieber is taking a page from the Usher playbook by hooking up with the dance party-minded production team. The club thumper pays homage to tracks that Usher has made with David Guetta and will.i.am, for instance. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1672718" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The feel-good song is grinding and a little dirty. For Bieber's part, he sings the hook, proclaiming, "I'm gonna live my life/ No matter what/ We party tonight/ I'm gonna live, live, live my life/ I know that we gonna be all right." He then throws in the good-old dance floor chant "woo woo woo" for good measure. "We're thrilled to have Justin be a part of <i>Dirty Bass,</i>" rapper Kev Nish told <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/listen-justin-bieber-teams-up-with-far-east-movement-for-live-my-life-20120223">RollingStone.com</a> about the club-busting collaboration. "Far East Movement has always focused on unexpected collaborations and mashing up musical genres, which keeps making music exciting. 'Live My Life' is a song we think both Far East Movement and Bieber fans will enjoy together." The team also worked with LMFAO's RedFoo on a remix of the swirling party track. And, in case you're wondering how the guys in FEM know Bieber, well, apparently Snoop Dogg introduced them at an awards show last year. The track's producer, <a href="/news/articles/1679414/justin-bieber-far-east-movement-studio-redone.jhtml">RedOne, described the song as "a smash,"</a> before he spoke a bit more about the song and hitting the studio with the boys. Justin Bieber is one day away from turning 18, and we're counting down his 18 greatest moments so far in honor of the occasion. This week, we kicked things off by looking back on some of the highlights, from Justin crashing this year's Oscars to his headline-making romance with girlfriend Selena Gomez.
In the latest installment of our Bieber birthday countdown, we pick up with #13 to #6, narrowing down the early achievements that helped shape the teen into the pop superstar we know and love. 13. Bieber Drops "Baby" Video
In February 2010, Justin dropped his star-making "Baby" video. Proving he had lots of swag, he enlisted Ludacris and Drake to appear in the bowling-party-themed clip, which featured a romance with his pretty leading lady. The video also displayed Bieber's budding persona as a charming pop Romeo that no girl can resist.
"It starts off, I really like this girl, but we didn't [get] along; we couldn't be together," he told MTV News while shooting the video. "Basically, I want her back and [I'm] kind of going through the whole thing. I'm chasing her around, trying to get her, and she's kind of playing hard to get, but I'm persistent. I keep going."
12. Justin's Voice Changes
No one is immune to puberty, and that includes teen stars. As Bieber continued to mature before our eyes, his voice also took a turn for the manly. But he wasn't too worried about it. "Everyone's voice changes. Puberty is a natural thing," Bieber said in 2010. "I have the best vocal coach in the world and we're working on my voice and doing what I need to do. It's not like as soon as you hit puberty you stop singing. Usher is the best mentor in the world and he survived puberty. He tells me what to do, what not to do."
11. Bieber Goes Hip-Hop
Between his rap persona, Shawty Mane, and getting love from a number of A-list hip-hop pals like Kanye West, Luda, Drake and Lil Wayne, Bieber has proved that swag is more than just a hashtag to him. This kid can legitimately hang with some of the hardest guys in the game — and hold his own.
10. 2011 Grammy Awards
At last year's Grammys, Bieber seemed poised to take home a trophy, but he famously lost in the prestigious Best New Artist category to Esperanza Spalding. He shook off the loss, though, and vowed that one day he would take home Grammy gold. He's set to release his next album, Believe, in 2012. Grammy voters, take note!
9. Bieber Drops My World 2.0
For his second EP, My World 2.0, Bieber upped the ante when he enlisted folks like The-Dream to produce. While the record was released in March 2010, only months after his first EP, My World, the follow-up managed to eclipse the original thanks to memorable songs like "U Smile," "Baby" and "Up." 2.0 helped spark the frenzy known as Bieber Fever. The teen star even scored an MTV special on the series "Diary."
8. Bieber Goes Under the Mistletoe
He invited us all to premiere his video for "Mistletoe," the lead single off his holiday-themed Under the Mistletoe. When he sat down with MTV News for his "MTV First" interview, he talked all about shooting the video in Nashville, his desire to make a cool Christmas album and getting the chance to work with heroes Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.
7. Fans Welcomed to My World
In 2009, Bieber dropped his first EP. Full of sugary-sweet pop, the songs launched him from viral Internet sensation to full-on star. The album was rife with puppy-love tracks that displayed Bieber's ear for melodies and recalled some of the great pop music of the past from stars like New Kids on the Block and even Michael Jackson.
6. First Film, 'Never Say Never,' Released
Bieber's first foray into the world of big-screen blockbusters came courtesy of a 3-D film, "Never Say Never," that served as a documentary and a concert film. It addressed any of his haters with in-depth interviews with the folks who know him best and Bieber himself, who recalled his personal hardships before making it big. If that wasn't enough for the Beliebers, it also featured a 3-D Bieber shaking his floppy hair around.

'American Idol' Report Card: Joshua Ledet At Head Of Class
Season 11 goes live Tuesday night, featuring the top 13 male vocalists.

"American Idol" kicked off its live broadcasts Tuesday with a two-hour telecast that showcased the 12 (OK, 13) male vocalists, though perhaps "showcased" was too strong a term. Because while a select few turned in standout moments, most of the guys seemed to struggle beneath the spotlight.
While we'd probably chalk it up to opening-night jitters, it's not like a second performance is assured: Only five guys are guaranteed to make it through to the top 10 (though, since this is "Idol," there's probably a judges' save in there or something). With so much on the line, who delivered the goods? Here's our grades for the guys — the good, the bad and the ugly — on a very full first night for "Idol."
Joshua Ledet: His version of J. Hud's "You Pulled Me Through" was as remarkable for its scope as it was for its superiority over everything else Tuesday night — seriously, watch the show again and try to find anything that comes close. As a result, he's already been dubbed "Man-tasia." Let's not go there just yet, but damn: Grade: A
Aaron Marcellus: His thrilling take on the Jackson Five's "Never Can Say Goodbye" would've been a show-stopper on any telecast, though he drew a tough slot at the midway point of the show's two hours. Hopefully, his full range and subsequent standing O won't be forgotten by voters. Grade: B
Heejun Han: The judges may have derided his song choice (Robbie Williams' "Angels,") but what do they know? Han owned it, and turned in a workmanlike effort that was equal parts butter and balls. He'll stick around. Grade: B
Creighton Fraker: He started off his take on Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" sounding like Ernest P. Worrell, yet recovered splendidly, and, in the end, turned in one of the most gut-busting performances of the night. It might not have connected with viewers and didn't get a lot of help from the judges' middling comments, though. Grade: B-
Jermaine Jones: The so-called "Gentle Giant" earned a second chance, thanks to the judges. Good thing, since radio can't get enough of ginormous dudes singing baritone these days. Still, he did Luther's "Dance With My Father" and did it well, but, really, this spot couldn't have gone to David Leathers Jr.? THANK YOU SO MUCH. Grade: B-
Jeremy Rosado: This ultra-bland crooner took on ultra-bland ballad (Sara Bareilles' "Gravity") with predictably bland and breathy results — good enough for a passing grade on this night! Thank God J.Lo branded him the "Jer-Bear," or else this dude was toast. Grade: C+
Reed Grimm: First out of the gate, he delivered a soft-core Cinemax version of "Moves Like Jagger." As far as highlights go, overzealous network censors bleeped him. Oh, and at one point, he picked up his in-ear device. The performance was like a Vegas revue, minus anything and everything that makes a Vegas revue thrilling (nudity). "Woo!" all you want, Reed, you get a Grade: C
Adam Brock: Lest you forget, he has a whole lot riding on this. Brock claims someone once told him he had "a large black woman trapped inside of [his] body," and decided to dishonor her anyway with a mumbly, milquetoast take on Aretha's "Think (Freedom)." White Chocolate, indeed. Grade: C-
Phillip Phillips: This psychotropic acousti-bro turned Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" into a dour dirge. The pacing was so slow he almost chopped and screwed it, and he sang the tune like he was hiding a pinecone in his throat. Whenever Randy starts talking about "indie artists," you know things didn't go well. Grade: C-
Deandre Brackensick: Brackensick tried his hand and hair at Earth, Wind and Fire's "Reasons," but it was off-key from the very get-go. Still, his performance (and heartthrob histrionics) earned rave reviews from the judges. "I understand," J.Lo said. OK, well at least someone did. Grade: D
Chase Likens: We learned he can whistle, which is officially the most interesting thing about him, aside from the fact that he can somehow attend Marshall University while also owning horses. Byron Leftwich couldn't even pull that off. He did a wallpaper-intense version of Hunter Hayes' "Storm Warning," and should blow out of the competition faster than a Gulfstream hurricane. Grade: D
Eben Franckewitz: Boy, Adele was a bold choice. The teen crooner might have found his footing mid-song, but he could never quite handle the chorus of "Set Fire to the Rain," and as such, oof, this one was a dog. There's no reason to assume he'll advance, except for the fact that he's cute. See you in the Top 12! Grade: D-
Colton Dixon: This McMansion-dwelling poet spent a portion of his intro package explaining his hair. Good call. He took on Paramore's "Decode" (told you), and was summarily swallowed by Hayley Williams' precedent. At least you've got a big bedroom back home, dude. Grade: F

Oscars 2012 Ratings Up From Last Year
Ratings for Sunday night's telecast up 4 percent over 2011's show.

Sometimes "meh" is all you need — especially when you're following up one of the most reviled Oscar hosting teams in recent memory.
That might explain why, despite a night devoid of any major surprises or blockbuster winners, ratings for the 2012 Oscars telecast were up slightly over last year.
According to ABC's preliminary ratings, the Billy Crystal-hosted awards show had a 25.5 rating and 37 share, a 4 percent increase over the 2011 show, which famously bombed thanks to the lack of chemistry between hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway. Crystal's safe-as-milk ninth go-round as host earned the veteran comedian mostly tepid to negative reviews, but it was enough to boost the big night to one of its best ratings nights since 2007, when the show put up a 27.7 rating and 42 share.
The highest-ever Oscar ratings came in 1998, when the global blockbuster "Titanic" helped draw in more than 55 million viewers.
Ratings might have been even higher if any of the most-nominated movies had posted solid box-office figures as well. But between them, the leading winners, "The Artist" and "Hugo," which both reveled in a nostalgic look back at the dawn of the modern movie era, have grossed just over $100 million combined to date. To put that in perspective, popcorn flick "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which was blanked in three technical categories, brought in nearly that much in its opening weekend.
More complete ratings numbers are expected later in the day on Monday (February 27).

Miley Cyrus Surprises Lauren Alaina On 'American Idol'
Teen finalist met her real-life idol during mentoring session on Wednesday night's episode.

<P><P>Superstars swing through the hallways of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/topic/american_idol/index.jhtml">"American Idol"</a> on a weekly basis, but on Wednesday (April 27), Lauren Alaina was greeted by one of her very own idols. Miley Cyrus surprised the finalist with an impromptu visit during her mentoring session. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:646958" width="240" height="211"></div><p> With the assistance of Babyface and Jimmy Iovine, Alaina's weekly training session was running smoothly as she rehearsed her cover of Carole King's "Where You Lead." "About halfway through my meeting with Jimmy, he had a big surprise for me," Alaina gushed to viewers in a pre-taped segment on the show. "Miley Cyrus walks in. I was like [<i>jaw drops open</i>] ... she was so nice and she gave me such great advice." With her long curly locks and dressed in an all-black ensemble, Cyrus offered a hug to the aspiring songstress and shared a few friendly words of advice. "I listen to your music all the time. You're awesome," the "Hannah Montana" star told the 16-year-old. "The most important thing you can do is just do it for yourself because you will always have mean comments. People will always talk about you and that's never going to change." Alaina's impromptu visit from Miley seemed to have boosted her confidence for Wednesday night's performance. From those high-hitting notes to her inviting a male audience member onstage, the contestant playfully strutted, ending her performance with a chuckle. News of Cyrus' surprise appearance on "Idol" hit the Internet early Wednesday morning when <a href="http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b238691_miley_cyrus_make_surprise_appearance_on.html" target="_blank">E! Online</a> reported that Iovine asked the superstar to be a mentor as a result of a remark he'd made earlier in the competition. A few weeks back, <a href="/news/articles/1661948/american-idol-lauren-alaina-james-durbin.jhtml">Alaina chose to sing Cyrus' hit song</a> "The Climb," which led Iovine to tell the contestant she was "a much stronger singer than Miley Cyrus." <i>What did you think of Miley's mentoring advice? Taylor Swift Not Ready To 'Put Down' Speak Now Tour
'I loved this show so much ... that I didn't necessarily want to put it down,' she tells MTV News of taking the tour to Australia and New Zealand.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a> will launch the next leg of her highly successful <a href="/news/articles/1667555/taylor-swifts-speak-now-tour-brings-honky-tonk-to-nj.jhtml"><i>Speak Now</i> Tour</a> next month, and she's excited by all the possibilities the trek will bring this time around. "We're going to Australia and New Zealand, because we are never done touring," she joked to MTV News during <a href="/news/articles/1679207/taylor-swift-safe-and-sound-music-video-premiere.jhtml">"MTV First: Taylor Swift,"</a> when she premiered her new video for the "Hunger Games" track "Safe & Sound." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:733492.id:1678910" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I'm really excited about going back to Australia and New Zealand because, well, New Zealand, it's the first time I've ever been there, and the Australian fans have been so good to me," she continued. "And this will be my third time going back there. I loved this show so much, the <i>Speak Now</i> Tour, that I didn't necessarily want to put it down. I hope they like it. I love going there. It's always really wonderful. The people are so nice." The last time she hit the road, she was joined by a laundry list of A-listers, <a href="/news/articles/1672570/taylor-swift-ti-duet.jhtml">including T.I.</a>, Flo Rida, Usher and Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams, to name a few. And she still can't believe all those people agreed to perform with her. "It's been crazy. Between all the guest artists that have come out and come onstage and surprised the audience, that was, I think, my favorite part of touring this year, because the audience never knew what they were going to get," she said. "And I loved that experience, and even walking around L.A., people come up to me, these girls will come up to me [like] 'I was at the Staples show where Justin Bieber came out' [or] 'I was at the one where Ellen and Nicki Minaj came out,' and it's just really fun, because you start to realize that concert meant something to them, and that's nice." Not only did all those famous faces perform with Swift, but she also had one of the <a href="/news/articles/1676586/u2-highest-grossing-tour-2012.jhtml">top-grossing tours of the year</a>. Taylor Swift Gets Prom Invitation From New Jersey Teen
Kevin McGuire is in treatment for leukemia, and his sister is trying to score him a date with Swift.

But the singer who spent her prime prom years touring the world has mostly had to assuage her high school dance jones with a headlining gig on MTV's 2008 show <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/once_upon_a_prom/series.jhtml ">"Once Upon a Prom."</a> </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:733493.id:1678910" width="240" height="211"></div><p> But now, instead of sharing her big night with 40 dates and the cameras, Swift has gotten an invitation from a Somerdale, New Jersey, high school senior who is hoping she'll make his dreams come true. According to ABC News affiliate <a href="http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news%2Flocal&id=8554592" target="_blank">WPVI</a>, 18-year-old Sterling High School football player Kevin McGuire's sister has started an Internet petition on his behalf asking the country-pop superstar to stand by her brother's side. McGuire, who is receiving treatment for a relapse of the leukemia he was diagnosed with five years ago, is getting dating assistance from his big sister, Tori, who decided to try to lift his spirits after he fretted that he might not be able to get a date once his hair fell out from chemotherapy treatments. "I said, 'What if I got Taylor Swift to go to the prom with you?' " she said she asked her brother. "His eyes lit up for the first time since he was diagnosed." As a bonus, the prom falls on Kevin's birthday. So Tori set up the "Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire to Prom!" <a href="http://www.facebook.com/events/338272569549921/" target="_blank">Facebook site</a>, which as of Friday (February 24) morning had more than 77,000 followers. "All throughout Kevin's treatment he kept his character intact, remained playing basketball, and even started varsity football as a freshman," she wrote on the Facebook page. "Kevin is known throughout the community as the High school's 'real life SUPER MAN!' Tragically, Kevin had a relapse, and is now fighting cancer for the second time. Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18 year old a person could even fathom meeting, and throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?' Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift. Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life. And the one thing he wants is to GO TO PROM WITH TAYLOR SWIFT! Let's make this happen people! TAYLOR PLEASE GO TO PROM WITH KEVIN!!!!!! NO ONE DESERVES IT MORE!" A Twitter hashtag, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23teamkevin" target="_blank">#teamkevin</a>, has also become a trending topic, with a number of celebrities hopping on the bandwagon, including Perez Hilton, Travie McCoy, reality star Teresa Giudice and sports giants including Michael Vick, Alex Rodriguez, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith. Swift's spokesperson could not be reached for comment at press time and the singer had not yet reacted to the invite on her Twitter feed. But many Facebook friends have weighed in on the latest public request for a <a href="/news/articles/1674295/justin-timberlake-marine-corps-ball.jhtml">celeb to accompany a civilian</a> to a public event, including Bernadette Scullin, who wrote, "May your dreams come true!" and Cecelia Denny, who joked, "C'mon Taylor, don't be 'MEAN!' <P>For 23 years, <a href="http://www.nick.com/kids-choice-awards" target="_blank">Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards</a> has been an event in which celebrities can truly let loose. After all, it's hard to have an ego when you're getting covered in green slime or being inducted into the Arm Fart Hall of Fame (we're looking at you, Josh Duhamel). Nick's 2011 awards show, which aired lived on the network Saturday from Los Angeles, kept with its tradition of stars finding themselves in some truly outrageous situations. <a href="/news/articles/1657689/jack-black-kids-choice-awards.jhtml">Host Jack Black</a>, who was at the helm for the third time (he last helped hand out those coveted orange kaleidoscope blimps in 2008), kicked things off with an over-the-top musical number. The funnyman, wearing a black leather jumpsuit with flames — the first of many quirky wardrobe changes — was joined by a group of dancers to perform his own rendition of the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/black_eyed_peas/artist.jhtml">Black Eyed Peas</a>' hit "I Gotta Feelin'." <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:video:nick.com:784813" width="512" height="288" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></div></div> Black then introduced the group, as the "Jack Black Eyed Peas," and joined them onstage for "The Time (Dirty Bit)." BEP, who later won the award for Best Music Group, then sang their next single, "Just Can't Get Enough." The first award of the evening was given out to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/16504/personmain.jhtml">Johnny Depp</a>, who won Favorite Movie Actor for his performance in "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/373927/moviemain.jhtml">Alice in Wonderland</a>." Depp, who emerged from backstage, told the kiddie crowd and voters it was "truly a pleasure to receive this award that comes from you guys. I appreciate it." After apologizing for beating Black in the category, Depp told Nick viewers, "You guys are the future; take good care of us." The actor then proceeded to get in on the fun, sliming the group of young fans who stood at the foot of the stage. Depp's stunt led to one of the evening's most memorable — and by far, funniest — moments when "Arthur" actor Russell Brand and "Modern Family" star Rico Rodriguez appeared onstage soon after to present the award for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (the blimp eventually went to Eddie Murphy, who got the crowd to sing him "Happy Birthday," for his role in "Shrek Forever After"). Before Brand and Rodriguez could even begin their banter at the podium, the freshly slimed youngsters began throwing the green, gooey mess at the two stars. In response to the mayhem, Brand declared, "I'm never having children." Brand continued, as he guarded Rodriguez from the kiddie coup, "I am English! I am your leader! You must not do this, I am royalty! You are all going to juvenile hall. You children are going to prison. You are bad children!" Brand, who is voicing a character in the animated feature "Hop," cried that the moment was not in the script, then joked, "Johnny, I wished you'd drowned them." They weren't the only stars to get slimed during the broadcast. Heidi Klum, who almost took a spill thanks to her sky-high heels, got hit, as did Jason Segel, who received a slime slushie courtesy of Jane Lynch. Even Snoop Doog — who joined pop-rock group and Nick stars <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/big_time_rush/artist.jhtml">Big Time Rush</a> for their song "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/big-time-rush/619502/boyfriend.jhtml#artist=3454569">Boyfriend</a>" — got doused in the green stuff. As Willow Smith performed her hits "21st Century Girl" and "Whip My Hair," the 10-year-old was cheered on by her dad, Will Smith, and brother, Jaden Smith, who were in the audience. The final big award of the evening went to <a href="/music/artist/cyrus__miley/artist.jhtml">Miley Cyrus</a>, who won for Favorite Movie Actress for "The Last Song." The former "Hannah Montana" star attempted to put gossip to rest during her acceptance speech as she thanked her family for supporting her career. Cyrus will no doubt get fans wondering about the status of her relationship with "Last Song" co-star and on-again, off-again beau <a href="http://hollywoodcrush.mtv.com/2011/04/01/mile-cyrus-liam-hemsworth-dating-again/">Liam Hemsworth</a>, whom she thanked for "helping me make movie magic" in the 2010 drama. The Big Help Award, which was presented by Rosario Dawson, went to singer/actor Justin Timberlake for his devotion to charities, particularly the work he does with Shriners Hospital for Children. In between cracking jokes about burping and getting the crowd to cheer if they had ever helped anyone, Timberlake took the time to tell his young fans, "Your heart is the most beautiful part, so don't forget to use it." In addition to telling kids they can do their part to help, even with major issues such as the crisis in Japan, the star said something bound to make any adult watching elated: "Listen to your parents!" Finally, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian hit the stage to help give away the last award of the night for Favorite TV Show, which went to the kid-friendly Nickelodeon hit "iCarly." Black kept a high energy throughout the show, including some interactions with his "Kung Fu Panda 2" character, Po, — one of which featured a cameo from Britney Spears in a pre-recorded segment. He ended the evening with a slime battle between himself and Jim Carrey, who made a surprise finale appearance. Taylor Swift Calls Work On 'Lorax' 'Completely Different'
Doing voice-over 'very different from when you're singing songs that you wrote,' Swift tells MTV News.

From the recording studio to the stage, it's certainly clear that Taylor Swift has a knack for expressing her emotions and skills. While the singer/songwriter has graced the silver screen only once, she's taken her talents to the sound booth for her portrayal of Audrey, a tree-loving daydreamer in the upcoming film "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax."
MTV News sat down with Swift recently as she prepared for Friday's release of the famous Dr. Seuss tale, which follows the journey of a young boy who must save endangered trees in hopes of winning a girl's heart. While making music and characterizing an animated girl are two quite-different tasks, if anyone can do it, and do it well, there's no doubt it is Taylor Swift.
"It's a completely different space that you go to in your head," Swift explained about voice-over work. "It's very different from when you're singing songs that you wrote. ...With this, you're sitting there in a booth by yourself having conversations with no one."
Having scripted conversations by yourself and answering questions to a voice you can't even see might seem like a lonely gig, but, as with any of her work, the Grammy-winner found meaning and excitement in her role. Even though Audrey and Swift might not exactly resemble one another physically (Audrey has red hair), the blonde singer/songwriter connected with the character on a deeper level.
"She's heavenly. She's such a day dreamer, and she cares so much about the past," Taylor said. "To some degree, you have to have a priority based on the past and the future as well as the present."
As seen in the trailer, the character of Audrey is fun, bubbly, curious and a big fan of trees. Swift certainly fits all of these traits, and we're looking forward to seeing what she does with the character when "The Lorax" is released Friday.
Oh, and does Taylor dig trees as much as her animated counterpart? "I grew up on a Christmas tree farm, and she's obsessed with trees," she shared.
